This month we’re starting a brand new sermon series at New Anthem called, “Soul Detox.” While, admittedly, many of the ideas came from Craig Groeschel’s book by the same title, the premise behind the series was birthed out of this clean eating and soda-free September rage.

In short, science is starting to show that what we’re putting in our bodies is having a toxic effect. Because of that research, people are now trying to curb the junk they’re consuming. However, I think it’s equally important for us to understand what we’re putting into our souls can be just as toxic.

Did you know the average American watches 5 hours of TV...per day! The average 21 year old boy (I used that word on purpose) has spent 10,000 hours of his life gaming. That’s more than middle school and high school combined, FYI.

Now hear me, not all TV is bad, and not all video gaming is wrong. But really? That’s a lot of hours. I have met a lot of people in my life and I have yet to hear, “TV changed my life--it has filled me with such passion and significance.” It hasn’t happened.

Please, relax and enjoy life! But understand, you are what you consume, so be careful--and pretty please, start making a positive difference!
